Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapy that involves burning dried chinese mugwort (a herb called Artemisia argyi H. Lév. & Vaniot) on or near specific points on the body. It’s often used in conjunction with acupuncture and is believed to stimulate the flow of Qi (vital energy) in the body and promote healing.
It is commonly used to treat ailments such as pain, musculoskeletal disorders, digestive disorders, and menstruation ailments for women.

Functions of Moxibustion

1. Warm the Meridians and Expel the Cold
It is used to warm the body meridians and expel the cold, especially in conditions where cold is believed to obstruct the flow of Qi and blood, causing pain or stagnation.
2. Disperse Blood Stasis
The mugwort herb used in moxibustion has the function to disperse swelling and stagnated blood and Qi, treating conditions such as gastric pain, menstruation pain, joint and muscular pains, sports injury, etc.
3. Tonify and Consolidate the Yang Energy
In TCM theory, moxibustion is often used to tonify and consolidate the Yang energy, which is associated with warmth, activity, and vitality in the body, treating conditions such as weak body constitution, fatigue, etc.
4. Cultivate Health and Prevent Illness
Moxibustion is often used on healthy individuals to boost the immune system, which can prevent illnesses and cultivate a healthy body.
1. 温经散寒
艾灸可以温经通络、驱散寒气，尤其适用于寒气阻滞气血流通，导致疼痛或瘀滞的病症。
2. 消瘀散结
用于艾灸的艾草其功能包括消瘀散结，适用于各式痛症，例如：痛经、胃痛、肌肉与关节疼痛等。
3. 扶阳固脱
在中医理论中，艾灸常用于扶阳固脱，适用于体虚、乏力等症状。
4. 防病保健
除了治疗疾病，艾灸也常用于保健与预防疾病的产生。
